Getting started

How to Upload Your Data

DataHub supports two deposit methods. Both create a linked catalogue record that makes your data discoverable and citable. Choose the method that best suits your file size and infrastructure.

Direct Upload

Best for files up to 30 GB on your local machine

  1. 1

Log in with your UChicago credentials at the DataHub portal.

  2. 2

    Choose Direct Upload

From the dashboard, click "Direct Upload" or navigate to the Upload page.

  3. 3

    Select your file

Drag-and-drop your file or click to browse. Files up to 30 GB are supported.

  4. 4

    Add metadata

Provide a title and description. Additional fields (DOI, keywords, licence) are optional at this stage.

  5. 5

    Upload

Click Upload. Your browser streams the file directly to DataHub storage. Keep the tab open until complete.

  6. 6

    Review your record

When the transfer finishes, a UChicago Knowledge catalogue record is created automatically. Follow the link to add any remaining metadata.

Files larger than 30 GB must be transferred via Globus and will be rejected if the limit is exceeded.

Globus Transfer

Best for large datasets, HPC output, or remote servers

  1. 1

Log in with your UChicago credentials at the DataHub portal.

  2. 2

    Choose Globus Transfer

From the dashboard, click "Globus Transfer" or navigate to the Globus page.

  3. 3

    Authenticate with Globus

Authorise DataHub to access your Globus account using your institutional credentials.

  4. 4

    Select your source endpoint

Choose an HPC cluster, lab server, or personal Globus Connect endpoint as the source.

  5. 5

    Browse and select files

Navigate the remote filesystem and select the files or folders you want to deposit.

  6. 6

    Add metadata and submit

Fill in the required metadata fields and click Submit. Globus handles the transfer in the background.

  7. 7

    Track progress

Monitor the transfer in "My Uploads". You will receive a notification when the record is ready for review.

Globus transfers are fault-tolerant and resume automatically if interrupted. You do not need to keep your browser open during the transfer.
